CANNON (COLLEGE) classmates to the stars incognito cars kisses run aground did i let you down? ever bigger plans drinking in the stands smoke runs into town did i let you down? now i hide out from the coasts a fair and friendly ghost trying to map the sound of letting you down mapping out the sound of letting you down
2.
THE SPOKESPERSON FOR WINTER especially now when those lines shape around the block when those sweets send me into shock when all that reminds me of is shirtlessness and hopefulness so i keep ‘em drawn all summer long especially now when those discs slip without a sound when those cells start breaking down and under such slow attacks no artifacts could bring you back so i keep ‘em drawn all summer long
3.
BURY THE LEAD sunlight burns through evening's pall on foreclosed homes and dropped calls a million of us funnel by bicycle and tunnel into our stacks of stalls papers fold right up the street papers fold literally but what's tricky doesn't matter we'll just cover it in batter until it barely breathes closing bells are no escape from billboards giving me the shakes it's just sodium and nitrates so why can't i wait for a proper pace you're begging me to bury the lead run it now but bury the lead well people aren't pixels and words are more than whistles
4.
LISA PRUETT WILL HAVE HER REVENGE ON COVENTRY oh the safety lights perching above the loading docks and the sea of faded lines rimmed by the shops all shuttered and still it's a lonely island it's almost silent and from the ashes of her parents' smokes she will rise, she will rise casting shadows across a dead food court she will rise, she will rise and eat us all and eat us whole oh the dirty walks that wind around the picnic tables where all the crickets call long after dusk when we're not allowed here the smell of petrol it's almost natural and daubed in coppertone and clearasil she will rise, she will rise in a funnel cloud of sleeping pills she will rise, she will rise dressed in ticket stubs and cable bills she will rise, she will rise she will rise, she will rise and eat us all and eat us whole
5.
COME FOR THE PEOPLE, STAY FOR THE BUILDINGS you used to lay in parking lots and feel for all the cracks you used to throw divining rods to see if they'd come back with all of that incentive for to while away your days but it's not a reason to stay and you need a reason to stay you used to crawl the strip until the stars sputtered out you used to stare at buildings with an open shirt and mouth and there is still incentive for to while away your days but it's not a reason to stay better find a reason to stay
6.
DO YOU SEE THE RIFLES? do you see them? close your eyes do you see them? spreading like fireflies or a gadget's face aglow with a mustache saying hey there hello you're required to blow you should fire and follow us home do you hear them? through your hair on the a.m. they're underground and everywhere they declare your memory loss is as natural as a natural cause and you're standing in awe but you might just be spotting the flaw and you're suited up to sigh does your skin still have the nerve to surprise and they're scoring the skies and you're crossing your eyes again
7.
EXTERIOR, HOUSE the music stabs like it's picking up litter somebody's gone where they shouldn't have gone they're out by the pool and they're picking at splinters all the ink and the metal just drowns in the sun when we return it's interior, closet soaking in velvet down to the floor with a carotene face and a serial fidget she addresses directly that she wants it more and i'm not sitting here to make any friends either with the abyss of her raccoon eyes forlorn i'm just waiting to watch her being born on camera i just wanted to watch her being born
8.
COME FOR THE BUILDINGS, STAY FOR THE PEOPLE you used to blast at anyone you couldn't stand to lose you used to do a lot of things that maybe you still do so enjoy your long weekend with the models made of clay but it's not a reason to stay don't make a move just concentrate
9.
THE DISGRACED POLITICIAN’S FORMER MISTRESS TELLS ALL they were always nice places it was never by the hour a half dozen sheratons a handful of trump towers the same views that dazzled me just seemed to make him sour so he’d order up a bottle while i hopped in the shower if i stood towards the back they’d let me hear him speak his promises would echo so my heart would skip a beat i preferred his anecdotes from growing up in the south and getting out and i’d tell you i believed him but you wouldn’t believe me you’d roll your eyes and dim the screen i know now i see him at the gym ‘cause they gave him his own show he smiles at talking heads and tries to make ‘em roll i finish up my reps and take my earbuds out and now i’d tell you i believed him but you wouldn’t believe me you’d dim your eyes and save the screen i know
10.
THE CREAK OF THE LANDLINE the creak of the landline in 88 or 9 long and low and sweet it didn’t take ages to scan all the pages of faces and palm trees but where oh where were we mercy mercy
11.
THIS HAS TO STOP this has to stop you’re feeling up your heart again peeking at that chart and then swallowing this has to stop you’re trying on that overcoat lifting scales note-for-note and measuring 20 after’s 40 til and it’s true enough until 30 after’s 30 til it’s so obvious until 40 after’s 20 til this has to stop but isn’t that the argument it’s better ‘cause it’s gotta end so let’s begin though it’s gotta stop and i can’t keep from counting everything seconds before thundering
12.
LONGEVITY BLUES bury me in a crate of rye pasted over with cartoon eyes safe and dry and load my likeness into your phones and beam me up on the sides of fancy empty homes and let me dissolve into an ad starring every last girl i ever wanted so bad say you remember me if i’m stuck in your head say that you couldn’t sleep in the way i couldn’t sleep for the lights flashing in and by those stars’ sorta dingy light while your party’s still stumbling blind roll me up to lake shore drive and hold me up as it comes alive one more time
13.
GET ON WITH IT had a kind of rough one today where i wish i had nothing to say i had a will but there wasn't a way to get on with it one minute freaked out and bored then in the next one i fall on my sword toy prizes galore get on with it everybody's seen what i've probably seen everybody's been what i might could've been but then tomorrow never knows what it means get on with it maybe it's true that eternity's near and we can't help but feed a culture of fear but if that's too big to fail that's too big to revere get on with it
14.
After Work 04:46
AFTER WORK after work a bunch of us are going out ‘cause it’s been such a shitty week you should go it could be a lot of fun if it helps the first one’s on me i don’t know i’mn kinda tired i was really looking forward to just staying in aw come on don’t be lame you can do anything when your eyes adjust to the light inside and bottles bolt from the shelves you can see girls swaying back and forth some dancing by themselves and the alcohol does wonders but you’re not keeping up you’re just spacing out check your watch make a case then make your escape
15.
BURY THE LEAD sunlight burns through evening's pall on foreclosed homes and dropped calls a million of us funnel by bicycle and tunnel into our stacks of stalls papers fold right up the street papers fold literally but what's tricky doesn't matter we'll just cover it in batter until it barely breathes closing bells are no escape from billboards giving me the shakes it's just sodium and nitrates so why can't i wait for a proper pace you're begging me to bury the lead run it now but bury the lead well people aren't pixels and words are more than whistles

about

Clicks & Whistles rounds up all the songs pressed to vinyl as part of 2012's Zapruder Point Record Club. Art design by Ian Merritt. From the perforated lullaby of "Cannon (College)" to the head-bobbing loops of "The Disgraced...", from the graceful clang of "Bury the Lead" to the campfire folk of "Lisa Pruett...," this latest batch of kitchen-sink home recordings features harmonies galore atop characteristically short and scratchy songs.
